Handing Out Your Business Card Instead Of Giving Her Your Number Does Not Attract Women

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

By Teddy Shabba A popular method men use to give women their phone number is giving her your business card. Some men give out their actual work business card and other men have personal business cards made to hand out to women. The question I get asked the most when it comes to using this technique is; does it work better than simply giving her your phone number and if so should I give her a personal or business card? Yet, the truth is if you are giving her your phone number or business card and not getting her contact information as well it really doesn’t matter. Letting or asking a woman to call you first, will only lead to you never hearing from her again or you getting taken advantage of by her. Women call men first when he can offer them something and a relationship or sex isn’t one of those reasons. If you don’t mind being taken advantage of then handing out your business card is a good idea if you make more than 6 figures a year or you work in a field that can be a benefit to women. Otherwise, giving them a personal business card will work out best for you. Of course, if what you really want is to have women in you life that benefit you, the best thing you can do is take the steps necessary in order to learn how to attract women and never settle for simply giving a woman your phone number or business card. Inexpensive Christmas Gifts

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

By Ron Long Christmas is a time of joy, piece, and giving. It is also a time of being broke. Adults often think that the idea of making Christmas gifts is only for children who do not yet have their own money to buy gifts. However, with a little bit of ingenuity, some clever shopping, and a fair amount of free time, you can make some very grown up do it yourself Christmas gifts. The first step is to spend an afternoon at a craft store, and see what sticks out at you as things you would be comfortable sitting down to work on. Some very basic, but very nice final product ideas include: (1) Knit caps. If you have time to pick up crocheting or knitting, Christmas is a perfect time of year to put that talent to good use. You can make knit caps, mittens and scarves for men and women alike on your holiday shopping list. With all of the different available colors and textures in yarns today, it is virtually limitless what you can do to personalize a knitted gift. For some extra special fun, you can work in some fun beads fairly easily to jazz up a more basic design. (2) Pick up some shadow box frames at the art store, and make some personal home decorations. For example, if you have someone on your list who is a big fan of Beethoven, you can create a shadowbox picture with some music notes in the background with a copy of a Beethoven songbook and maybe a dollhouse piano in the frame. Stuff like the dollhouse furniture as well as lots of great designs for backgrounds and the like can usually be found in the scrapbook section of your favorite craft store. (3) Jewelry is a great personal do it yourself gift. There are all different skill levels for creating your own jewelry, and lots of different pieces that you can purchase to make your gift as professional looking and beautiful as you want. If you go to a good bead store, they will have lots of different settings on which to put earrings and a great selection of different and interesting beads for you to use. The best part though, is that they have expertise. With a little bit of help from the experts, you can make beautiful, one of a kind jewelry for less than a dollar a piece. (4) Ornaments are a great way to celebrate the Christmas season. There are so many different ways to create your own unique ornaments, that you could make a different type of ornament for nearly everyone on your list. You could cross-stitch some ornaments, hand paint a box of regular glass ornaments, create egg shell ornaments with glitter or paint, make picture frame ornaments, bead Holiday shapes with pipe cleaners and pony beads, string some Hawaiian flowers for a funky tree garland, or just put a glittery hook on a plain ornament bulb. The best part about this gift, is that you get to see it every year on your loved ones Christmas tree. Rebound Headache - Stop The Cycle

Monday, January 14th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=James_Cottrill] James Cottrill You’ve been getting headaches. Finally, you find some medications that are making a difference. You’re headaches are almost all gone but wait they’re coming back! They’re getting worse! The painkillers aren’t doing the job they used to do. What’s going on? You may be a victim of rebound headache. Rebound headache is a common problem. It happens when you start trying to fight off headaches, and they start fighting back. What’s often happening in rebound headache is that the very drugs that used to solve the problem are actually making things worse. If you start taking the drugs on a regular basis, your body actually gets used to the medication and starts to crave it when it’s not there. Then the headaches get worse, so you take more drugs. The cycle goes on. If you’re suffering from a mild headache almost every day, you may have rebound headache. If you’re taking pain relievers every 2-3 days, that’s a sign that you’re caught in the cycle. You may find that 3-4 hours after taking the drugs the headache gets even worse, or you may start waking up with headache. How can you avoid getting caught in this trap? The Mayo Clinic reports that the pills most likely to cause rebound headache are drugs with a combination of ingredients, such as drugs that include combinations of caffeine, aspirin and acetaminophen, and migraine drugs like ergotamines and triptans (eg Imitrex). If you’re taking a lot of painkillers, see your doctor and try to treat the problem. There may be newer and better treatments available. Also, be sure you have at least two days that are drug-free between every day when you’re taking painkillers. Some doctors suggest that you take no more than 10 doses a month. If you’re taking much more than that, see a good doctor and look for other solutions. But what if you’re already dealing with rebound headache? Though it may be hard to believe, you may actually be better off with no drugs at all. Many doctors suggest going cold turkey. You may need medical help to be able to get out of the cycle. The sooner you can get that help the better. You can try cutting down over a couple of months. Be sure to keep track of exactly what you’re taking. First, go a day without drugs, then two days between every day with drugs. You’ll likely notice an increase in headaches at first, but keep at it! Things will get much better. If things aren’t better after a few weeks, or you’re having trouble cutting down, see a doctor right away. Make sure there isn’t another damaging problem causing the headaches. It’s not worth the suffering there is lots of help available if you ask for it! Rebound headache can be painful and debilitating. Don’t let it control your life. This article is for your information, but should never replace a trip to the doctor. If you have any kind of new headache, or if things are getting worse, you could experience permanent problems if you don’t seek help. Things can get better! Many people before you have gotten out of the cycle and have seen their headaches diminish and even vanish. All the best in your fight to be headache free! Committee members shall bring all pertinent information and concerns for the entity that they represent to the committee, so that the information may be disseminated and the concerns explored. Recommendation made by the committee shall be referred to ___________________ for planning and implementation. ____________________ will examine all recommendations and implement all those recommendations which are economically and logistically feasible. All Steering Committee members must represent an entity with a responsibility to the community, and be dedicated to assuring the success of the correctional accountability track in deterring first time drug offenders. The SummitView Foundation reserves the right to exclude individuals from the committee that may be acting with their own agenda and not for the good of the community, or those individuals that may have a conflict of interest. PLANNING TEAM The planning team shall be responsible for carrying out the various daily tasks involved in coordinating and running the correctional accountability track. Case managers will assist in all necessary applications as related to the correctional accountability track. Case managers will facilitate all intakes, assessments and billing etc. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the SummitView Foundation as it relates to the correctional accountability track is as follows. The collective body of SummitView Foundation employees have through there associations and experience in dealing with drug offenders reached the realization that we as a community may have the greatest opportunity to effect change among new offenders. Currents trends in the criminal justice system have now and in the past stressed penalties and treatment for hardened long term drug abusers. It would seem that by the time an offender reaches the point where treatment in mandated and penalties force an offender to take responsibility for their actions, the offender has become callused and skeptical towards the judicial system. We feel that a great opportunity for intervention is being missed. Drug education and treatment can be very effective in teaching new offenders good decision making skills as well as helping them to understand addiction and where drugs will ultimately lead them. Any of the hardened heroine addicts, the intravenous methamphetamine users, the methamphetamine cook, or the forty year old marijuana addict that cant hold down a job or maintain a drivers license, had their beginnings with a marijuana pipe or a beer in their under aged hand. This then is our mission, to hold new offenders accountable for their current actions. To teach them the skills that they need to stop using and to start making healthy decisions. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES 1. Coordinate fully with the court A. Frequent and organized committee meetings. B. On line reporting for the courts and prosecutors. C. Open communication with judges, clerks and attorneys. D. Probation and treatment working together. 2. Drug intervention for the individual and the community. A. Hold offenders responsible for their actions. B. Appropriate quality treatment for offenders. C. Strict adherence to established guide lines. D. Follow through treatment and mentoring. 3. New offender intervention. A. Carefully screen prospective participants. B. Coordinate with prosecutors to determine eligibility. C. Make new offenders toe the line. D. Give offender the tools they need to succeed. E. Frequent and effective drug testing. F. Advanced treatment for those who fail to comply. G. Home confinement options. TARGET POPULATION Misdemeanor correctional accountability track participants will ultimately be recommended by the prosecuting attorney in a pending misdemeanor drug case. It will be left to the prosecutor to determine if the defendant meets the criteria and will benefit from the program. The target population should meet all of the following criteria. First time misdemeanor drug offenses. No extensive previous drug history. No criminal history involving violent offenses. i.e. domestic violence, child abuse, assault etc. No significant history of severe mental illness. The defendant must exhibit a willingness to change. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Criminal History: The defendant must not have an extensive criminal history involving drug related offences. The defendant must not have a felony drug history. The defendant must not have any violence related charges on the criminal history. If special circumstances exist concerning the criminal history, the prosecutor may make an exception.Willingness: The defendant must exhibit a genuine desire to complete the correctional accountability track. The defendant must commit before the judge to comply with all of the terms that are set forth in the probation, treatment and correctional accountability track agreement. The prosecutor will ultimately determine the willingness of the defendant. Nature of the Offense: The drug offense must be a misdemeanor at the time that the correctional accountability track is offered. Either originally or as a result of an agreed reduction in the charge. The charge in question must not have other felony charges attached, or that occurred as a result of the same criminal episode. The charge must not involve lose of life or serious bodily injury. Mental Fitness The defendant must no have any mental deficiency or illness that would preclude them from understanding or completing the correctional accountability track program. INTAKE PROCESS Misdemeanor Arrest A defendant arrested or cited on a misdemeanor drug charge would then be taken into consideration to be a correctional accountability track participant. Screening process The prosecuting attorney would then consult with the defendant to see if they would meet the criteria for the correctional accountability track. Plea in abeyance The presiding judge in the case will explain what requirements they need to successfully comply with as relating to the correctional accountability track rules. The judge will explain that they will be required to attend classes as well as correctional accountability track councils. The judge will explain that failure to comply with any of the requirements can nullify the plea in abeyance agreement, and therefore the defendant may be required to receive more extensive drug treatment or may have the original sentence imposed.________________________ requests that the following conditions be included in the plea in abeyance. 1. If the defendant fails to meet all of the requirements to complete the correctional accountability track. The participant/defendant will be required to complete and pay for ($80), a full substance abuse assessment and any recommended treatment. However, _________________________ will work with any conditions as set forth by the judge and the prosecutors. Referral process The court will give the defendant a copy of the three part referral form, and advise the defendant to contact ______________________ within the next 24 hours and set up an appointment for intake. The court will fax a copy of the referral form to _______________. ____________________ will also strive to have a representative in court during this process. If the presiding judge determines that termination is appropriate this action must be executed in a timely manor. Sanctions The purpose of sanctioning a participant is to bring the participant back into compliancy without having to terminate them from the correctional accountability track. Sanctions may include remanding the participant to a more in depth treatment regime, more drug testing, extending the duration of program or other treatment tools as decided by the panel. Graduation Graduation from the correctional accountability track will mark the participants completion of the original plea agreement. The participant with then be awarded with a certificate of completion, and have an appointment set for their final review with the judge. Follow up Individuals who have successfully completed the correctional accountability track will be asked to periodically sit on the panel as peer evaluators. Graduates will also have the opportunity to attend mentoring groups. The Difference Between Fat In Men And Women

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

By Glenn Freiboth It should be common knowledge that men and women store and carry fat in different areas; one need only look around to see this. In general, women tend to put on fat on their hips, legs, and buttocks while men tend to store primarily in their waistline. Scientists call the shapes in men android or apple and the pear shape that most women have they call the gynoid. The third type of shape is androgynous, meaning appearing on males and females which is an overall coverage of body fat. Someone who is prone to being overweight may be subject to factors such as a genetic predisposition to gain weight that comes from their parents, an under active thyroid, or as seen in recent news reports may even be infected with a virus that predisposes them to weight gain. Fat distribution seems to be influenced by age, genetics, and race, but even more so it is governed by hormones that are specific to each gender. The estrogen hormones in women call for fat to be stored in the aforementioned pear shape while the testosterone in men leads to fat storage in the abdomen and even right above the hips. It is not news to anyone that excessive body fat is bad for ones health but the way that fat is stored and where it is stored affects the function and health of specific organs. There are two types of fat, subcutaneous, which is under the skin and visceral, which is around the organs. Having excess fat around the abdomen is from visceral fat which tells us that abdominal fat is the most dangerous risk to our health. One of the easiest ways to determine excessive fat deposits is the waist to hip ratio measurement. The way you get this is by dividing your waist measurement by your hip measurement. The maximum for men is .95 for men and .80 for women. If your results are above this you need to take steps to reduce your weight. If you are an apple shape you are prone to a variety of diseases related to obesity such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, sleep apnea, arthritis, and more. Pear shapes are more prone to hip and knee problems and limitations in movement due to the accumulation of fat in the lower body. Regardless of whether you are a man or a woman you should take the waist to hip ratio test and if you are over it you should begin a weight loss program immediately. Eyeing the Competition

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

By Deborah Henken Never underestimate your competition. Today, that old business adage holds more meaning than ever, but many companies do not take time to objectively assess their company or products and compare them to their adversaries in the marketplace. Worse yet, some companies even feel that their products have no competition. Though it can be daunting to look at the realities of your market, understanding your competitive business environment is critical when planning for your company’s future profitability. Hammers Vs. Crowbars First, let’s clarify: everyone has competition, though it may not always seem obvious. Marketing experts cite two categories of competition: indirect and direct. Every company has indirect competition, no matter how unique or high-tech their product or service. Indirect competition provides the same benefit the customer obtains from your product, only in a different form. Take, for example, the Acme Hammer Company. Acme’s indirect competition comes from whatever customers use instead of hammers. Those more creative in the craft of carpentry might use a crowbar to drive a nail into a board or pry it out of wooden siding. That makes a crowbar manufacturer an indirect competitor. Looking at it this way, the possible indirect competition seems almost limitless, but it is critical to acknowledge all the options your customers have to meet their needs. You can use information about indirect competition to realistically target your markets, create your positioning and messaging or creatively and efficiently developing new products and marketing strategies. Remember, even though the indirect competitive product is not at all like your product, you can still lose an order because of it. Hammers Vs. Hammers Acme’s direct competition might come from other tool manufacturers such as Stanley, Husky and Craftsman. Because direct competitors are easier to identify and research, you may want to start your analysis here. Gather as much information as possible including the competition’s sales materials. Have your employees keep their ears open for anecdotal data they obtain from discussions with industry experts, manufacturers’ representatives or trade show participants. Ask your customers about the quality of the competition’s products, services and management. You should also gather quantitative data such as information about the competition’s gross revenues, ownership, number of employees, legal issues, new products, industry awards and relevant trade articles. Libraries, databases, trade literature and Internet web sites can help you fill any gaps in your knowledge. Orders are won or lost over small advantages or disadvantages. Knowing your competitors’ strengths and weaknesses allows you to tailor your products and services to get that critical advantage. More specifically, you use this information to strengthen relationships with your customers, stay informed about your competitors’ activities, remain knowledgeable about industry trends or acquisition prospects and identify potential product problems. Whats an example of using competitive information? Lets say your new competition has recently lowered their pricing, leading you to pricing pressure. However, the competitor is having legal problems due to inferior product quality. In this case, you can emphasize the high quality of your product in your sales materials to take advantage of the weakness of your competition, rather than meeting the price point of your competitor. Knowing your competition leads to new products or product improvements, sales tools positioning your product positively against your competitions weaknesses, finding new distribution strategies and many other business decisions. Rainy Day Fun - Crafts For Kids

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

By Jennifer Gove Rainy days can be so boring for a childand just as hard on moms. So we give some ideas to brighten your day and chase their rainy day blues away! Shadow puppets In a room that is fairly dark set up a flash light so it is facing a wall. Have the children make hand shadowsIf they get really good at them they could even put on a little play. My box home As a little girl some of my best times were spent making Barbie homes out of medium card board boxes. Paints, markers, crayons, fabric scraps, glue, and so on were used to fashion wall paper curtains and the like. The ideas and possibilities are endless! Little boys can make garages for there cars as well. Magazine Story Take ten pieces of paper. Staple them together. Have you child go threw a magazine and pick out 10 pictures to cut out. Tell him/her to paste one on each page. Now what ever order they are in the must right a story, the story should have some thing to do with the pictures on each page. This can be a real challenge but is endless fun and giggles. Puzzles Have you child search for a few pictures they like in an old magazine. Paste these pictures onto heavy cardboard. With a paint brush, brush on a coat of clear drying glue such as Elmers glue. Let them completely dry. Once they are dry cut them up into different shaped pieces. Now you have a puzzle for this rainy day and rainy days to come! Store in zip lock bags. Bean Bag Pals You will need a 10×10 square of felt, thread, needle, a parent to sew, beans or rice, tacky glue and scraps of different color felts to decorate with. Mom or Dad should sew the squares together all the way around, all but about 2 inches. Turn the square inside right. Fill with the beans or rice and sew closed. It can be decorated with the scarps of felt to make animals. Googly eyes are fun to add as well but are not recommended for children under four. A Gift of Comfort. Not long ago when I was in the hospital having my son, I was given a special heat pack for my back. It was very simple and would be a great project for children to help with. My suggestion is have your child make about 30 and donate then to a labor and delivery floor. Rice Sock Heat Packs You will need white mens tube socks ones that have no preformed heal medium is a good size. You will need uncooked white rice (not minute) You will need ribbon any color or colors you like. Gift tags that tie on. Fill each sock two inches from the top. Tie a length of ribbon tightly in a knot attach the gift card and then make a bow. On the gift tag write the instructions for use (you could make gift tags on your computer and print them all out) Microwave on high for 2 minutes or until it reaches the desired warmth. Enjoy! These work great, stay warm for a long time. If your child makes them to give away it is an added bonus of pride! Dress Up My children have a tote full of dress up clothing. I did it inexpensively threw yard sales, Dollar Stores, Halloween clearances and Good Will. I pick up things such as jewelry, hats, sun glasses, badges, fancy dresses, costumes and other articles of interest. Many times I save new things to add on a rainy day or another day they have nothing to do. It generates new interest and hours of play. One reader even mentioned the idea of theme boxes. Such as a fairy box if that was what your little girl was into or a princess or a firemen ect. I think that is a good idea for but also I believe a good mix of things inspires imagination and creativity. Driving Mat A huge poster board or cardboard is great to let your little one paint roads on for his cars In fact I bought my sons a light colors rug remnant (it was cheap) about 4×5 .It can be any size you like. My sons used fabric paints on the rug. They painted lakes, roads, airports trees and so on. If you decided to do the poster board you can use crayons or markers as well. They had a really great time making this one rainy day and still enjoy it to this day. When they are done they just roll it up and put it away. Card board milk cartons can be saved and painted to make little decorative houses and stores as well as stores to place on their car mat. Be sure to wash them well, dry them and staple them closed. 2003-2004 Jennifer & Gregory Gove About The Author Jennifer is the owner of simply moms.com. Our First Family

Monday, January 7th, 2008

By Jonita Johnson Genesis 1:26 Let us make man in our image. Man made in love, beauty, and intelligence, man made for intimate fellowship with God his Father. God made Adam then Eve The very 1st family, and it was GOOD. All things were created for man. He had dominion over all things living and growing. God had only given man one limitation. Adam apparently wasnt the greatest communicator, and Eve had so much going on with her gardening and all the animals, her listening skills apparently werent as tuned into him as they should have been. And neither apparently used the reasoning skills they were endowed with. So, one day because they didnt use their mutual skills, Eve fell for the okey-doke of one Satan the serpent (aka: tempter (tress), Lucifer, the wanna-be god, busybody, Loser, etc). Surely you know the kind. Anyway, Satan came at her with a challenge. The challenge to break the limit God had put on them to not eat of the tree of good and evil. Satan challenged their view of God to be right or wrong, he challenged the Word of God as a lie, and the ultimate challenge to them that they would not die; but instead they would be gods too knowing good and evil. Remember everything was good, except for Satan. He was all set to wreak havoc on the perfect world that God created. Adam and Eve had everything at their fingertips for the picking. What Satan showed Eve looked so good, smelled pretty, sounded so sensible, and seemed so innocent she went for his line. Adam followed Eve. They made a choice. Choices, as we now know, have rewards or consequences. Our 1st. family was about to learn their first lesson about independent living, not heeding the promises of God who loves them. Well Adam and Eve had their way, did the forbidden thing, and immediately their eyes were truly open. They knew that they were wrong. They were scared. For the first time Adam and Eve experienced fear. Their loving relationship with Father God was in question. They realized for the first time they were vulnerable. They stood naked facing each other and knew the shame of what they had done, and just how helpless and defenseless they really were. So they tried to hide themselves. Again mistakenly, they thought they could hide from God too. Weve played that game too hide and seek. As God did every evening He came to visit His kids. Adam, Adam where are you? He knew all the time, but dads who love dont just drop their kids because they are wrong. He sought them out, even though He knew what they did and where they were. Adam and Eve were in trouble. They wanted things their way out of Gods law, able to experiment. There is a price to pay when we live outside of God’s coverage. Father God could have destroyed them, right then, and started all over again. But instead He gave them a chance to come clean about what happened. Adam answered. I heard you, but I was afraid, cause I was naked so I hid myself. Adam, who told you that you were naked? Adam did you eat of the tree I commanded you not to eat of? Now the blame game starts. Adam answers, The woman you gave me she gave it to me. God asks Eve, What have you done? Eve is thinking, Im not taking the whole rap for this. She answers, The serpent deceived me, and I did eat. Then God said to the serpent, because you have caused this mess, you are cursed and there will be hostility between you and the woman, and her seed will bruise your head. To the woman He said He would greatly multiply her sorrow, and her husband would rule over her. To the man who had dominion over all things; God said to the man, because I commanded you not to eat of the fruit; the ground is cursed because of your doing; the land will be thorny and hard to till, hard to harvest. You will labor hard to eat of it until you die. From dust you came, to dust you will return. But God allowed them to live. In His love for them He made skins to cover their nakedness. But the 1st family had to leave the garden. They had to leave that safe, beautiful and secure place that their Father had created for them. God gave them what they thought they wanted - independence. Today we are still drawn away from our Father for the allurement of pretty, more knowledge, being gods in one way or another. We are still subject to our curiosity, to our need for independence, self-rule. God gives us what we want; but just as Adam and Eve did, we will always pay the cost to be the boss. Adam and Eve, the 1st family were the groundwork for our society today. The plan of God for family was and is today to be indivisible, united, strong, in belief and actions. We have the choice today to make our homes strong and safe. To teach values that an intruder/family-crasher cannot come in and easily deceive. We have an opportunity still to live in the presence of God and to live in His perfect will for our family. When families are united as God intended them to be, it is hard for outside forces to come between them. We can learn from the experiences of Adam and Eve. Gods plan was for them and us to grow and prosper in His love and provision for us. When we as families put God first, teaching our children the laws of God, and living in the purpose that God created each of us for We are strong. Families are the foundation that communities are built around. Take God our Father out of family we have chaos; limited values, diminishing respect for ourselves and others; kids killing parents, grown folks raping children, lies; deception used to benefit self. Without the value centered family communities do not turn into nations with purpose; and a nation without purpose is lost. Keep our families strong and follow Gods command: Deuteronomy 4:5-9. See I have taught you rules and laws as the Lord my God has commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to possess. Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about these rules and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to Him? And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous rules and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today? Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. Let us remain one nation, one community, one family as in the words in our Pledge of Allegiance of the United States of America We are one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. And as our money states let us so put into action by building our families believe In God We Trust. Get to Know Your Audience Via a Web-Based Survey

Friday, January 4th, 2008

By Nancy E. Schwartz Have you considered launching a web-based survey for your nonprofit? Keeping in close touch with your audiences is the most effective action you can take to reinforce relationships with those critical to your success, and to ensure that your programs and services continue to meet their needs. Remember that responding to a web-based survey is so quick and easy that response rates are far higher than with traditional surveys. You’ll need email addresses of those you want to survey in order to invite them to participate. If you’re surveying all of your audiences (rather than a distinct segment), you’ll also want to promote the survey on your web site. Best of all, a web-based survey is a great way to get critical input from your audiences — to test ideas, solicit suggestions, or brainstorm on areas for improvement. Web survey tools such as Zoomerang (http://www.zoomerang.com) and SurveyMonkey (http://www.surveymonkey.com) are available for use in a basic version at no charge and in upgraded versions with more features for a minimal charge of approximately $20/month. So web surveying is an inexpensive proposition definitely worth a try. Bonus: Your audiences will appreciate your interest in what they think, helping you to build loyalty, as well as to shape your offerings to their needs. Nancy E. Marriage and Playfulness: A Match Made in Heaven

Friday, January 4th, 2008

By Lisa Koosis Last year for Christmas, my husband and I bought my brother and his wife a pair of marshmallow guns. Yes, they really shoot marshmallows. Basically, the barrel of each gun can be filled with miniature marshmallows and shot quite a distance — or, more to the point, at each other, of course. But aren’t marshmallow guns a ridiculous gift for grown adults? They’re for kids only. Aren’t they? The thing is, I don’t think so. I think they’re a great example of a way to inject playfulness into a marriage. It’s easy to forget that playfulness is a vital part of marriage. For those who’ve found the right mate, marriage is a wonderful, fulfilling institution. It also requires work. Running a household, juggling schedules, communicating properly are all things essential to a good marriage, and with the struggles of day to day life, it’s easy to get stressed. Play is a wonderful way to keep a marriage fresh and happy and, importantly, youthful. So how do you inject playfulness into your marriage? Give each other pet names, the sillier the better, and talk to each other in crazy voices. Have a game night instead of a movie night. Play Candyland and Chutes and Ladders. Buy silly books and take turns reading them out loud to each other in your best dramatic voice. Play in the mud with your kids. Get your hands nice and dirty. If you don’t have kids of your own, borrow one. Silly? You bet. But what if you’re not feeling quite so silly? There are still other ways to add some fun and playfulness to married life without regressing twenty-plus years. Go bowling or join a softball league. Take up tennis or badminton. Take a class together at the local adult education center, something light-hearted like pottery or creative writing. There are plenty of ways to inject playfulness into a marriage, and you’ll be surprised at the benefits. Play lowers stress levels, and with a little play, a marriage can be happier and healthier. Don’t you both deserve that? The marshmallow guns that we gave to my brother and his wife last year have gotten quite a bit of use. This year, we bought them inflatable swords. We’re already hard at work thinking of ideas for next year. Lisa has been happily married for thirteen years. She and her husband both love to play.
