Admission and Verification of Identity in Electronic Records

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

By Adil Waseem Verification of identity is also a problem for consumers, who want to be assured that the persons with whom they do business are who they claim to be. As a result, companies engaged in electronic commerce are developing “digital certificates” or “digital IDs” that can be used to verify a person’s identity over the Internet. “Digital certificates” are issued by a trusted intermediary who verifies the identity of a person and performs appropriate background checks, depending on the level of assurance to be granted. The simplest level verifies that an e-mail message was sent from an indicated address. The next level verifies the digital ID holder through online identity verification against a consumer database. The highest level requires that the holder personally appear before a notary public to have a digital ID application notarized. Once a person’s identity has been verified, the certificate is created using public key encryption techniques, which makes it independently verifiable by the recipient and Immune from tampering it. Under clause (a), (b) (c) (d) subsection 2 of section 114 of Income tax Ordinance 2001 has make it obligatory on every person and company regarding providing evidence of the records, A return of income (a) shall be in the prescribed form; (b) shall state the information required by the form, including a declaration of the records kept by the taxpayer; (c) in the case of a person carrying on a business, shall include an income statement, balance sheet, and any other document as may be prescribed for the tax year; and (d) shall be signed by the person or the persons representative. The validation of the details of any business transaction requires an ability to follow a similar audit trail as that which exists for conventional commerce. The following elements must therefore be present- access to the basic records related to a transaction must be available; and the integrity of those records must be authenticated. Taxpayers are required to keep accurate books and records, which are subject to examination by the income tax authorities in order to verify the income and expenses reported on the taxpayer’s return. Although many taxpayers rely on computerized record keeping systems to a large extent, many transactions still originate as paper records which can be used to verify the accuracy of the electronic records. However, for taxpayers engaged in the sale of electronic goods or services, no paper records are likely to be created because customer orders are placed and fulfilled electronically and therefore the only record that exists of these transactions could be an electronic one. As all users of computers know, this creates the possibility for tax evasion and fraud because computerized records can be altered without a trace. The “digital notarization” systems have been developed which are intended to make it possible to verify that electronic documents and records have not been altered. Public key encryption also permits a taxpayer to encrypt his financial records to prevent their examination on audit. It would seem that this should be treated no differently from failing to keep or destroying paper records. Even taxpayers engaged in the sale of physical, as opposed to electronic, goods may soon receive orders and issue invoices electronically. Electronic “documents” must be verifiable in order to minimize the potential for tax evasion. Growing An Indoor Bonsai

Monday, May 26th, 2008

By Patrick Desnoyers Indoor bonsai has been described in different ways. Some describe indoor bonsai as a plant grown inside the house, a plant grown in a greenhouse, or a plant grown outdoors but brought indoor during winter. Some experts on the subject even denies the existence of true indoor bonsai as they reason that bonsais, whether grown outdoor or indoor will always follow its genetic composition - that is to have enough source of light in order to survive. Whatever the description is, growing bonsai indoor needs special skills and knowledge. When growing bonsai indoors, the problem most growers encountered is the provision of adequate amount of light. Indoor bonsai plants must be placed in a well-lighted location like the windows. The nearer the indoor bonsai is from the window, the better is the growth of the plant. When a bonsai is placed at the window, rotating the bonsai is a must. As the bonsai ages, its branches and leaves tend to tilt towards the sunlight. Rotating the pot will enable all the parts of the bonsai to receive the amount of light needed. In the absence of the natural light, artificial lighting can be employed provided the correct lamp or bulb is used. The common household lamps or bulbs do not emit the right amount of energy in order for the plant to undergo the process of photosynthesis. Without proper lighting, the bonsai plant becomes pale, long and limp. An expert advice on the appropriate lamp to use is needed when planning to employ the artificial lighting method. Plants from the tropical regions thrive well as indoor bonsais. Some of them are conifers, flower-bearing, fruit-bearing and/or leaved plants from the tropical or subtropical regions. The following are some of the plants that can be grown indoors. 1. Atlas Cedar2. Australian Brush Cherry3. Bougainvillea4. Boxwood5. Buddhist Pine6. Bunya-bunya7. Calamondin Orange8. Camellia9. Cedar of Lebanon10. Chinese Bird Plum11. Chinese Elm12. Chinese Hibiscus13. Chinese Pepper Tree14. Common Olive15. Dwarf Myrtle16. Dwarf pomegranate17. English/Common Ivy18. Firethorn19. Fukien Tea20. Gardenia21. Heavenly/Sacred bamboo22. Hedge Sageretia23. Himalayan Cedar24. Indian Laurel25. Italian Cypress26. Japanese Cedar27. Japanese/Chinese Privet28. Lady’s Eardrops29. Natal Plum30. Norfolk Island Pine31. Orange/Star Jasmine32. Redwood33. Rockspray Cotoneaster34. Rosemary35. Round Kumquat36. Satsuki Azalea37. Thorny Eleagnus38. Tree of a Thousand Stars39. Weeping Fig Fruit-bearing plants developed as indoor bonsais bear fruit when given special care. Fig trees although can be grown as indoor bonsai need more sunlight than what is available indoors. Conifer trees are harder to manage than the other varities. When a grower plans to cultivate fruit-bearing bonsai, special care must be given so that the plant will bear flowers and fruits. A common misconception about indoor bonsai is that it must be kept inside the house or under the shade starting from the early stage of cultivation until the bonsai reaches its potential growth. Another misconception is that bonsai grown indoors should not be subjected to direct sunlight. Only those who have taken extra effort to find out more about growing bonsai know that bonsai, whether indoor or outdoor must have an excellent source of sunlight, humidity, fertilizer and moisture content. Too much supply of anything can bring damage to the bonsai. So, anyone who plans to grown indoor bonsai must study the specific needs of that particular plant or tree. The Art Of Perfume Notes - What Are They?

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

By Cody Kahl When people hear the word notes they often say yeah those are the things that make up a song. Sure this is true, but did you know that notes are also used to describe the various scents of a fragrance? Most people arent even aware that there is more than one aroma involved in perfume or mens cologne. In this article we will take an in depth look at what levels of notes occur in a fragrance, as well as what is involved in each level. As I mentioned above, there are actually different scents within a bottle of perfume. Thats right, when you purchase your dream bottle of cologne at the local store, it isnt going to always smell the same. When you wear it, the scent will actually change throughout the day. Evaporation causes different notes to come out during this period. So what exactly are these notes? Lets take a look. Top Notes This is the first scent you smell when sniffing a particular fragrance. Because this is the first scent a person smells, the manufacturer knows that the top notes are very important for a good first impression. The top notes are usually described as fresh or strong. These notes generally last a matter of minutes (10-30) due to them evaporating quickly. Middle Notes Also sometimes referred to as heart notes, these scents are generally much less dramatic than top notes. Middle notes last longer than top notes and usually appear 10-45 minutes after applying the perfume. Base Notes This is the finale of every good cologne. The ingredients used here hold everything together. Musk is a common ingredient that is used as a base note. Now that you are in the know, next time you go to buy that special cologne, you may be able to give the clueless sales representative a crash course in fragrance study! *************************************************** Cody Kahl is creator and writer of Mens Cologne Guide A site dedicated to providing only the best mens cologne information. Choosing and Applying Makeup Foundation - A Simple Step by Step Guide

Friday, May 9th, 2008

By Donna Kelly Makeup foundation is the secret to whether your makeup will look good or not. Foundation helps to smooth out your skin tone, conceal blemishes and gives you a healthier glow. Applying makeup without a foundation base can actually accentuate unsightly skin problems, rather than conceal them. Choosing and applying foundation should be a simple procedure, but there are pitfalls. Here is an easy step by step guide to choosing and applying foundation. Step 1. Decide what foundation coverage and finish you prefer. Decide what type of look you would like to achieve. Foundations can offer coverage from sheer to heavy and finishes that range from matte to satin. Degree of coverage and type of finish is very much a personal choice. Step 2. Choose the right shade Once you have chosen the ideal formulation (coverage and finish) for you, you’re ready to choose the perfect shade to match your skin tone. There is a good selection of foundation shades available from the lightest of shades for pale skin through to shades for the darkest skin tones. Here’s how to select the perfect shade for you. How to select the perfect shade Ensure you’re in natural daylight when trying out foundation colours, so you can see exactly how your skin will look once you leave the shop. Select a couple of shades which look as though they’ll match your skin. Don’t try foundation on your hand or on your wrist- they’re a different colour to your face. Stroke a little colour onto your jaw line to ensure you get a tone that will blend with your neck as well as your face. The shade that seems to “disappear” into your skin is the right one for you. Tip: Bear in mind you may need a slightly darker shade of foundation for summer when your face will naturally tan. Step 3. Moisturise Begin with clean hands and a clean face. Apply the moisturiser appropriate to your skin type. Let your skin moisturiser for a few minutes, particularly if your skin is oily. Applying foundation to freshly moisturised skin ensures you have a perfect base with which to work. Apply foundation 10 minutes after moisturising. If you don’t allow the moisturiser to absorb into the skin, your foundation could “come off”. Step 4 Apply concealer Camouflage any under-eye circles and facial blemishes with concealer. Your concealer should be a slightly lighter tone than your foundation. Step 5 Apply foundation When applying foundation use a cosmetic sponge - using your fingertips can result in an uneven, greasy finish. Dampen the sponge first squeezing out the excess moisture - this will make foundation application easier and prevent the sponge from soaking up too much foundation.Place a small amount of foundation on the back of one hand. Dip your makeup sponge into it. Apply foundation by dotting it on your forehead, cheeks, chin and nose and then blend each one with your sponge. Blend out to your hair and jaw line until the foundation vanishes. Pay special attention to blending around the nose, mouth and jaw line. When applying foundation, slightly rubbing toward the neck area helps create less of a line around the face! Tip: Be sure to blend, blend, and blend. Special areas to watch are the hair and jaw line. And be sure that your face isn’t one color and your neck another. Tip: When putting on foundation, always do it in a bright room or by a window. This way, you can see what hasn’t been blended-in properly. Tip: Many companies have added sunscreens to their foundations, so they’ll protect you from the ageing effects of the sun while you wear them. Look out for the words UV protection and Sun Protection Factor (SPF) numbers on the tube or bottle. Step 6 Set the foundation with powder This is an optional step that you may find beneficial. A light brushing of powder on your foundation sets the foundations making it longer lasting. If oil surfaces during the day, blot the area with a tissue then apply a light dusting of powder. Always apply powder to set make-up and reapply throughout the day to prevent shine. Tip: The light dusting of powder also helps with eye shadow application and also makes the eye shadow longer lasting. Important! If you want a tanned look, don’t use a darker foundation, use a bronzer. Job Search

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

By Steve Richards Introduction There is one thing you need to understand about getting ajob and that is, the simple fact that “Getting a job is afull time job in itself”. Read that again, I did not say itis a part time job, I said that it is a full time job. The fact that you are reading this page means you areserious about your future, you are serious about finding ajob and you are obviously willing to put in the time andeffort that is needed to get that job. To help you I am going to talk straight and tough when Ineed to, just to make sure that you think about what youhave been doing and what you need to do next. Pleaseunderstand that I am not attacking you, I am notcriticising what you have been doing, I am just trying toget you thinking about alternative methods and approachesthat might work for you. End of contract Firstly, your last term of employment was terminated, either by you or by your employer. During the first few weeks or unemployment, there is apsychological change that occurs, there is an emotionalchange that occurs. Now I am not going to launch into anypsycho babble about this, I just want you to recognize thatthis is normal. You have to acclimatize to being out ofwork, you have to put aside the feelings of helplessness, remorse, anger and disbelief that are associated withdealing with circumstances beyond your control. If you have been out of work for more than six months youmay have slipped into blaming others for the situation youare in. Understand, if you are out of work for more thanthree months then your approach to getting a job needsto change to cope with this small gap. Yes I said small gap. It may seem enormous to you andalso to some of the employers you will meet. But in thelong run, your working career (45 - 50 years), 3 - 6months is nothing. Why does your approach need to change? If you observed afriend doing the same thing day in day out, for months onend and every day he got a negative result, no positiveindicators at all, wouldn’t you tell your friend to trysomething different? You are where you are today because of the decisions youmade yesterday. Positive results come from good decisions. It may be time to change your approach, time to move on,time to make a fresh start. Lets generate some positive results.. You may need to reword your covering letters, change yourresume slightly to make a more positive impact, you mayhave to change the agencies you have been using etc. Finding Vacancies Just do a quick check on the list below, how many of thefollowing do you utilize to locate vacancies? Local Newspaper National Newspaper Specialist Trade Publications Local Government sponsored programs Personal Contacts Business Contacts Speculative approach (explained later) Phone Directory Business Directories Local library Internet Agencies The list above is not a conclusive list of places to findjob leads, but it is the main core of commonly usedreference. If you are not using all of these sources of jobleads then you need to change what you are doing. Let me highlight a few of the less obvious ones and explainthe approach: - Personal Contacts Let your friends know that you areactively seeking work, ask them to pass any job leads theyhear of to you with some urgency. In Britain, it is knownas the “old boy network” or just Networking and it works. Business Contacts People you used to work with inprevious jobs, these people know you and hopefully respectyour professional approach to work, they are in a positionto use their contacts to help you. Speculative approach This approach to finding workis highly under rated. Imaging you are an employer, if youhave a job vacancy it can cost you thousands of pounds toadvertise, short list, interview and eventually employ theright person. It is a process that may have to be repeatedseveral times before the employer finds a suitablecandidate for the post. Now imagine that as an employer you have a vacancy andsomeone has just sent you their resume, they might be exactlywhat you are looking for and it cost you nothing to findthem! If as an employer you do not have a vacancy to fill, you may keep the resume on file for two or three months, justin case. From your point of view sending a resume and coveringletter to an employer who may or may not be going throughthis process is a way of tracking down job vacancieswithout the competition. See one of our other reports on the Speculative Approach. Phone Book & Business Directories Listed in the phonebook are hundred of businesses that employ people just likeyou, they have jobs that you are trained to do, they maynot have a vacancy at the moment but you can use thespeculative approach to contact them and find out. Local Library If you can’t afford to buy newspapers, orif you don’t have a local phone book or business directorythen use the local library, because they have them allunder one roof. Agencies Many people use an agency to help them locatework, but in fact you need to use several agencies. You usethem like this; get your name on the books of at least 5agencies and then rotate chasing them. See our report on Using Agencies for more information. Attitude Keep Focused it’s a numbers game Getting quality job leadsis the first step in what can be a long process, follow thesteps one by one on a daily basis working at getting a joband you will succeed. If you are a sales person then you will understand what Iam about to tell you, if you have never worked in salesthen you may not, either way it does not change thefollowing fact: - The more rejection you meet, the closer you will be tosuccess! Or, if you prefer, the more no’s you get the closer you areto a yes. The more jobs leads you can find, the more jobs you canapply for. The more jobs you apply for, the more rejectionsyou will meet but the more interviews you will be offered. The more interviews you are offered the better at interviewsyou become and the more chance you have of getting a job. The Numbers Game True, the quality of your application makes a bigdifference, but we are about to look at applications andthen quality and quantity will work together. Now, I said earlier that getting a job is a job in itself,if you treat it as a job then you should put at least 5days a week into getting yourself a job. You should aim atmaking ten job applications a day, that’s 50 jobapplications a week! I know what you are thinking, how can I apply for 50 jobs aweek? Lets break this down. In my own personal experience I used to apply for 10 jobsevery day of the week. That’s 70 jobs a week! I amsuggesting that should you only looked for work Monday toFriday then you should look to make 10 applications a day. Still too much? OK, lets break this down further. Using the advertised vacancies first, apply for as many asyou can find in the papers, trade publications, agenciesetc. You would usually expect to find two or three suitablevacancies in this way. Then chase the agencies, you should be looking for at leastone vacancy. Then use the speculative approach in fill in the extra’s.Remember the speculative approach is a way of contactingcompanies that employ people with your skills. This is oneof the biggest hidden job markets. More than 50% of thethousands of people I have personally helped find new jobsgot them on the speculative approach. Don’t ignore thisvacancy gold mine. Working with ex-offenders (recent prison leaver’s) and thelong term unemployed (out of work for more than 6 months),Steve found himself working inside a prison before takingover two Job club’s. It was not long before that Job club was consistently at thetop of the inner-city league table. Soon after that, he was head hunted to manage five Job club’staking them up the league table with his approach to dealingwith the negativity of employers and job seekers alike. IT Consultant: How To Manage Your Time During Start Up

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

By Joshua Feinberg As an IT consultant looking to go solo, how you can cut through the information overload so you can tune out the distractions and focus on only the most relevant, critical tasks for starting up a business? You need to first realize you may need to stop spending time on things that are not making you any money. Adjust Your Priorities If you are serious about starting a business as an IT consultant, you will have to adjust your priorities and manage your time better. When youre first starting out, especially during the first six months to a year, put 90% of what you perceive to be your research and development time and your technology training time on the back burner for the next three to six months. Shift Your Focus to Finding Clients As an IT consultant trying to go solo, you need to concentrate on finding paying clients for your business. Sitting in a classroom, playing with CDTs, getting all these not-for-resale copies of things and playing around in your lab with new operating systems is not helping your business! Once you make this adjustment you will figure out pretty quickly whether you need to get more training. Your Technology Skills Are Probably Ahead of Your Clients Fortunately, youre probably six to 18 months ahead of what small businesses in your area need. Theyre not early adopters, theyre late adopters. Put your business development needs ahead of your need to feel like youre keeping up. The Bottom Line about the IT Consultant As an IT consultant looking to go out on your own, keep in mind you need to prioritize and manage your time effectively. Take all the time you would have spent keeping up and reading magazines, and put it into demand generation, lead qualification, sales calls and follow ups.
